This page is for vets opening a clinic in Türkiye and thinking about a website for it. The rules come from the Regulation on Veterinary Practices and Polyclinics and Law No. 6343 on the Practice of Veterinary Medicine.
01Practice or polyclinic?
- Practice (muayenehane). One vet can open it and, as responsible vet, work with up to two other vets. Up to three vets can also open one together as a partnership or company.
- Polyclinic. One vet can open it as responsible vet working with at least three other vets. At least four vets can also open one together as a partnership or company.
In both cases the responsible vet gets a responsible veterinarian certificate, and every vet working there gets their own work permit.
02Applying for the licence
Under Article 6 of the regulation you apply to the provincial directorate with a petition and:
- Your diploma or graduation certificate, and specialist certificate if you have one
- A declaration of your Turkish ID number, and photos
- A plan showing the parts of the practice, and its address
- Registration with the regional chamber of veterinarians
- A declaration of your home address
The documents are checked and the directorate's vets inspect the premises. If the practice meets the regulation, the directorate issues the licence. You may not open without it, or employ vets and assistants without work permits.
03The advertising ban
Under Article 9 of Law No. 6343, vets may publish notices giving their place of work and specialty, but these may not be promotional or advertising. The law lists the use of promotional or advertising form, content, wording and signs on signs, notices, prescriptions, the internet, media and social media as conduct that leads to disciplinary penalties.
- Allowed. The clinic's name, address, phone, working days and hours, the vets' names and titles, and their specialties.
- Not allowed. Campaigns, discounts, claims such as "the best", and advertising built on customers' thanks. Chambers of veterinarians have also announced that they treat discount and campaign posts on social media and search engines as advertising.
Before you write the site, check the current announcements of your regional chamber of veterinarians. If you are unsure about a phrase, leave it out.
04What a clinic site can include under these rules
- Vets. Name, title, school and specialty.
- Services. A plain, informative list of the examinations and treatments done at the clinic.
- Animal health information. Useful information for owners without advertising, such as the vaccination schedule and seasonal warnings.
- Directions and hours. Map, opening hours and how to reach you in an emergency.
- Contact for appointments. Phone and WhatsApp.
05Being found
A Google Business Profile shows the clinic's address, hours and phone on the map. To open one, follow the steps in our Google Business Profile guide, and keep the wording on the profile informative too.
